Will a Former Sheriff Help a Traveling Refugee? Find Out When You See The Way North

Since the beginning, Amphibian Stage Productions has set out not only to entertain, but to give audiences something to think about, to incite conversation, to bring up important issues and big ideas, and make an impact — whether it be a ripple or a wave. This season, Amphibian Stage Productions is proud to present “The Way North” – this weekend only! Check it out Saturday, December 7th.

On a very cold, early winter night, a traveler stumbles onto Freddy Hansen’s property. Agnes Kuur, a Sudanese refugee, is trying to get across the border and is dismayed that she’s only gotten as far as this Northern Minnesota cabin. Now Freddy—a former sheriff—is forced to choose between what’s lawful and what’s right to find the way north again.

“The Way North” is written by playwright Tira Palmquist. Tira Palmquist is known for plays that merge the personal, the political and the poetic. She is a member of the Playwrights Union, the Anteaus Theater’s Playwrights Lab and is a member of the Dramatists Guild. Her work as a director and dramaturg includes several seasons at the Seven Devils Playwrights Conference and the New Territories Playwriting Residency.

Amphibian Stage Productions is a non-profit theatre company founded in 2000 by three alumni of Texas Christian University’s Department of Theatre who strive to produce innovative and engaging theater that inspires new ideas, opens new doors, and increases our understanding of the vast world around us.
