This Book Will Change Your Life: The Book of Mormon at The Winspear Opera House

Book of Mormon is the musical you should see if you think you don't like musicals. But don't go with your grandmother, or your boss, unless you want to do a lot of squirming in your seat. We wouldn't expect anything less from crude comedy geniuses Trey Parker and Matt Stone. In 2003, the creators of South Park began working with Bobby Lopez, composer of Frozen and Avenue Q, to develop the uproarious hit musical about two young Mormon missionaries who believe they're being sent to Orlando, Florida, on a two-year mission but are instead sent to Uganda.

Seven years later the show debuted on Broadway, where it racked up nine Tony’s and set ticket sale records at the Eugene O'Neill Theater. While there's plenty of fun made at the expense of the Church of Latter Day Saints, there's a reason it ultimately ended up purchasing ads in the Playbill: The magic of Parker and Stone's style is that they satirize all of their subjects equally, exposing the silliness of telling others how they should live, and the end result is almost heartwarming. If you've had trouble getting one of these hot tickets until now, you'll have another chance when the musical's third national tour arrives at the Winspear Opera House (2403 Flora St.) at 7:30 p.m.
